Solution No. 1: Wait til you get on full force Bulletproof Coffee Starting on Bulletproof Coffee, as with all new endeavors, takes a bit of adjustment. If you've read our cheat sheet, you know that you should be starting with 1 tsp MCT on Day 1, 2 tsp. MCT day 2, then a full tbsp (3 tsp) on the third day. This is because if you do it full force, the MCT can cause what Asprey fondly calls disaster pants. Nobody likes that. So expect hunger pangs, but you'll notice they aren't the "hangry" kind, where you're hypoglycemic and angry at the world - trust me. Hangry is was my middle name. Hang tight til you get to full strength BP coffee and it should get better. Solution No 2: Crank up your fat
"Use your hunger as a guide" is actually taken verbatim from Asprey's Bulletproof Coffee recipe. This means you should feel free to add more butter and or MCT. Experiment! We've found our sweetspot at 2 tbsp. MCT and 2 tbsp grass-fed butter. He says you can add more as needed. Solution No 3: Switch coffee. Sometimes what feels like hypoglycemia or the shakes is a reaction to bad coffee. Robusta or Liberica (found in what we call Barako in the Philippines) is acidic and tends to cause a bad coffee hit -- ulcers, diarrhea, aggressive behavior, palpitations: not worth the saved bucks. Switch to good Arabica, as close to the farm as you can get it (so none of that branded imported stuff) and you should feel and taste a difference. Alternatively, Joe Rogan, a huge Bulletproof fan actually tested Starbucks coffee and found it to be without the toxins you usually get in evil commercial coffees. So you can head on over to the nearest Starbucks and get it in the roast and grind you prefer. It will cost you 4x what a good regular Arabica will cost you. Solution No 4: Have some protein with your Bulletproof Coffee for Breakfast The simplest way to do this is to have a fresh egg (ideally hormone-free, free range, all that good mambo jambo) fried in butter with some sea salt. We get our haul from Healthy Options. I do this, because apparently, adding some protein and fat (good fat:butter, MCT) fast-tracks the fat burning even more. If you just have protein, you'll be even hungrier. so make sure it's a one-two punch of protein+fat in the morning. Hope this helps! |
