Hello! Feel free to browse through the posts. Most are answers to questions we've been asked about Bulletproof Coffee.
We get asked this question a lot, particularly by those who are just starting out. This begs the question: Why do you need to blend it at all?
Blending breaks the fats down (butter and the oil) so that it's best absorbed by the body. Asprey says biting a chunk of butter from the bar itself doesn't quite have the same effects as a proper Bulletproof coffee.
The reason Bulletproof coffee works so well is because a biohacker tried and failed many ways before arriving at the perfection that is this frothy cup of awesome. It breaks my heart when you click the hashtag #bulletproofcoffee and you see an iceberg of butter jutting out of a black cup of joe with a film of oil slick on top! This is why a lot of people complain about it not tasting as good as they say it tastes-- it wasn't prepared properly.
We've invested (*cough*spent *cough*) a lot in finding the perfect blender. The first thing is to check that your blender isn't plastic, or if it is, make sure it's BPA-free. Plastic leaches or releases estrogen-- which causes a host of problems including making you fat. Counterproductive. Not fun. Second, make sure it's big enough if it closes on the top and not at the base. We've heard those who use a Magic Bullet have had great success with it. Might have something to do with the name haha. This is because although it's small, it closes at the bottom. If your blender's lid is on top, expect spillage if it's small. So get the biggest blender you can get (you can use it for so many other things) and try to get a sturdy glass blender.
After all the trial and error though, we stumbled upon what works best for us: A hand blender! We bought it because Zach was going on a trip for work, and taking the blender was just out of the question. We also got a stainless steel beaker so as to not use the plastic one that comes with it to avoid BPA. This produces just as much foam as the blender, without as much clean-up and with the least amount of spillage.
Then again, there's this method by Dave Asprey himself: using a sturdy (read: expensive) thermal cup. Do not try with cheap plastic mugs please! He also teaches you how to brew the coffee without a brewer using the cowboy-brewing or gravity brewing method. For those who want to get this particular thermal mug, they sell these at S&R for 1200 for two pieces. Insulates well and is definitely spill proof. This method doesn't produce the frothiest Bulletproof Coffee -- so I don't recommend trying it this way the first time you try it, but it's great for when there's no other way to get it done. So how do you make your #BulletproofCoffee? Leave a note in the comments. |
